The 1995/96 season was historically significant but difficult for Eintracht Frankfurt. Having been a Bundesliga club continuously since the competition's inaugural 1963/64 season, Frankfurt finished 17th and were relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in club history.
The campaign also brought a managerial change. Club legend Charly Körbel remained in charge until 30 March 1996 before Dragoslav Stepanović took over at the beginning of April. Frankfurt also competed in the DFB-Pokal, reaching the second round, while their UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign ended in the Round of 16.
