The 1990/91 season represents the greatest league campaign in Sampdoria’s history. Managed by Vujadin Boškov, Sampdoria captured their first and only Serie A championship, finishing ahead of AC Milan and Inter to claim the historic Scudetto.
The team was built around the famous attacking partnership of Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini, popularly known as the “Goal Twins.” Vialli enjoyed an exceptional campaign, scoring 19 Serie A goals to finish as the league’s leading scorer, while Mancini remained the creative and technical centrepiece of the attack.
The championship-winning side also featured important players including Attilio Lombardo, Toninho Cerezo, Pietro Vierchowod, Moreno Mannini and goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca, giving Sampdoria one of the strongest and most memorable squads in the club’s history.
Sampdoria also reached the Coppa Italia Final, competed in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup as defending champions and contested the UEFA Super Cup against AC Milan.
