Liverpool 1998-00 Away L/S Jersey
The Liverpool 1998-00 Away Jersey represents an important transitional period at Anfield, spanning the end of the Roy Evans era and the beginning of Gérard Houllier’s rebuilding of the team.
 
The away designs from this period are remembered for their unmistakable late-1990s styling and bold use of contrasting colours. The 1998/99 version was predominantly white with strong red sections and dark piping, while the following 1999/00 away design moved to a vivid green base with dark navy, white and diagonal detailing.

    The 1998/99 season was a major transitional campaign for Liverpool. Roy Evans initially shared managerial responsibilities with Gérard Houllier before leaving in November 1998, allowing Houllier to take sole control of the team.

    Liverpool finished seventh in the Premier League, while their UEFA Cup campaign ended in the third round. Individually, Michael Owen was the outstanding goalscorer, finishing with 23 goals in all competitions, including 18 in the Premier League. Robbie Fowler scored 18 in all competitions, while Jamie Redknapp contributed 10 and Patrik Berger nine.

    The season was also significant because Steven Gerrard made his Liverpool first-team debut and began wearing No.28, while established figures such as Owen, Fowler, McManaman and Redknapp remained central to the side. McManaman departed for Spain at the end of the campaign. The confirmed 1998/99 numbers include McMANAMAN 7, FOWLER 9, OWEN 10, REDKNAPP 11, BERGER 15, INCE 17, CARRAGHER 23 and GERRARD 28.

    By 1999/00, Houllier was reshaping the squad. Sami Hyypiä, Stéphane Henchoz, Dietmar Hamann and Vladimir Šmicer were among the important additions, while Gerrard became increasingly involved with the first team. Liverpool improved to fourth in the Premier League, with Owen again finishing as the club’s leading scorer.

    OWEN 10 is the strongest recommendation for the Liverpool 1998-00 Third Jersey.

    Michael Owen was the leading attacking figure across this two-season period. In 1998/99, he scored 18 Premier League goals and 23 in all competitions, finishing comfortably as Liverpool’s leading scorer.

    He remained Liverpool’s leading scorer in 1999/00, making OWEN 10 particularly suitable for a shirt spanning both campaigns rather than being tied to only one of them.

    For a more distinctive collector-oriented option, GERRARD 28 is particularly significant because it represents the very beginning of Gerrard’s Liverpool first-team career. McMANAMAN 7 is an excellent 1998/99-specific choice, while HYYPIÄ 12 represents the beginning of Houllier’s rebuilt side in 1999/00.
