    The 2000 season brought Atlético Mineiro an important trophy as the club won the Campeonato Mineiro, defeating arch-rivals Cruzeiro in the final. Atlético won the first leg 2–1, with goals from Marques and Guilherme, before drawing the second leg 1–1, Ramón Menezes scoring the decisive Atlético goal.
